Many referance books have been compliled over the years about keeping discus fish and how to breed them more than any other exotic fish, the reason is because they are very popular with home pet owners.
Discus fish are from the warm waters from the Amazon River and keeping discus fish require you to have to correct information from the start so the owner knows what it takes to keep there discus happy and the right feeding and breeding paterns.
Discus fish are shy but if you plan the correct way to keep them, you will find that they can become aggresive to each other, the reason for this is because they like to protect there breeding territory and keeping discus fish can be hard work but the rewards are just as equal.
Some quick tips:
Pairing Your Discus: This is something that you generally cant do as discus fish like to pair themselves, for the best results you buy a group of unrelated fish and let them pair off there own accord.
Spawn: Discus choose a smooth area, they clean this area and the female will lay around 85 - 400 eggs, then the male will fertillise them.
Your Breeding Tank: Try to keep this simple - the water needs to be soft to allow the discus eggs to grow correctly, the water temperature needs to be around 84-88F
