it never ceases to amaze me how Mickey Mouse toys, DVDs, and cartoons remain so popular. But where did this phenomena, Mickey Mouse actually begin?. Many of you will know that Steamboat Willie was one of the earliest Mickey Mouse cartoons, and we should have a brief look at it here.nnWhen released in 1928, and featuring synchronized sound for the first time, it was the first Mickey Mouse cartoon published. The premiere full Steamboat Willie took place in New York. The success was immediate.nnThe film was a parody of a Buster Keaton movie steamboat Bill Junior, and was written and directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. The music was arranged by Wilfred Jackson, an animator for Disney. Turkey in the Straw And Steamboat Bill were some of the most popular songs.nnAlthough there has been controversy surrounding the film's copyright, it looks likely that Steamboat Willie may actually be in the public domain. The film has been so well received that the United States film Registry have selected it for preservation. It was also voted at number 13 in the list of the 50 best cartoons of all time.nnIn the past the film has been subjected to the censors scissors. Mickey's act of putting a cats tail and swinging it around his head did not impress the censor. Nor did using a goose as a set of bagpipes.nnWalt Disney Treasures DVD also featured Steamboat Willie. The black-and-white Mickey Mouse cartoon DVD entitled Vintage Mickey also featured the Steamboat Willie film.nnSooner or later it was obvious that Mickey Mouse was featured in a video game. Steamboat Willie also provided the basis for the first level of the video game Mickey Mania:The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse. The game was released on the Super Nintendo, Sega CD and Sony PlayStation consoles.nnIn the Steamboat Willie inspired world on the Disney game Kingdom Hearts I I, period versions of the characters are featured.nnI'm pretty unmarried that the film from the 1920s has created this massive market for Mickey Mouse Toys and clothes. I quick online search will bring up a plethora of Mickey Mouse related items. Dressing up sets, bedding, curtains, wallpaper and board games are just some of the items you will find. There is something for everybody. There appears to be no letup in the desire for Mickey Mouse related goods.nnHaving lived in the 70s as a child I would never have dreamt that 80 years after the first film, Mickey Mouse would still be going strong. Stunning!.
